This conference focused on latest developments and the way forward for green finance in the UK, bringing together key stakeholders and policymakers.
It took place in the context of ‘Greening Finance: Roadmap to Sustainable Investing’ from HM Treasury and the announcements made in conjunction with the COP26 conference.
Delegates considered the practicalities, opportunities and challenges of environmental disclosures and standards - along with the priorities for regulation and the design of investment labels.
Further areas for discussion included:
- international - UK positioning in the global green finance landscape - opportunities for collaboration - the ambition to make the UK the world’s first net-zero financial centre
- regional - the role of a greener financial sector in economic regeneration and job creation - improving engagement and collaboration with local and devolved administrations
- political - implications for green finance of energy security concerns, and political scepticism in some quarters over the direction and pace of policy relating to net-zero ambitions
We were pleased to be able to include keynote sessions from Adam Lyons, Head, Green Finance Unit, HM Treasury; Miles Celic, Chief Executive Officer, TheCityUK; Mark Manning, Technical Specialist, Sustainable Finance and Stewardship, Financial Conduct Authority Professor Sarah Hall, Professor of Economic Geography, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Nottingham; and Senior Fellow, The UK in a Changing Europe; and Michael Sheren, Senior Advisor, The Bank of England.
