This in-person conference brought key stakeholders and policymakers together to discuss the next steps for improving diversity in UK financial services.
It was a timely opportunity to consider:
- the introduced FCA regulations on board diversity disclosure
- the work of the Socio-economic Diversity in UK Financial and Professional Service Taskforce as it finalised its industry consultation and productivity analysis
We are pleased to have been able to include keynote sessions with Catherine McGuinness, Chair, Socio-economic Diversity Taskforce, City of London Corporation; and Jason Buwanabala, Diversity and Inclusion Consulting Senior Manager, PwC.
Areas for discussion included:
- regulation: what is needed for effective and supportive regulation - how this can be achieved in practice - opportunities for the sector and regulator to collaborate
- compliance: examining FCA comply or explain board diversity requirements and disclosure processes
- data collection: equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) data within financial services firms - identifying areas for action and utilising data for reporting and disclosure requirements
- incentivising action: engaging on the business case for diversity - understanding barriers - promoting incentives - harnessing benefits to address productivity and market challenges
- forging new workplace cultures: strategies for achieving meaningful change and adapting work cultures that support inclusion - use of evidence to design and adapt EDI strategies
The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from DCMS; DfT; DIT; DWP; HM Treasury; and The Scottish Government.
