Next steps for transition finance in the UK - policy, regulation, and planning

Morning, Tuesday, 24th November 2026

Online

This conference will examine next steps for climate-related transition planning in the UK. The planned agenda includes sessions on the development of transition plan requirements, priorities for transition finance and investment, and practical approaches to delivery by firms, sectors, and financial institutions.

The conference will bring policymakers and stakeholders together to discuss the forthcoming government response to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s 2025 consultation on transition plan requirements for FTSE 100 companies and UK-regulated financial institutions. Delegates will consider the potential introduction of mandatory plans, questions around proportionality and scope, and how requirements sit alongside wider objectives for net zero, climate adaptation, clean energy investment, and development of the UK sustainable finance sector.

Sessions will also assess the role of the Transition Finance Council in supporting a credible and competitive UK transition finance market, drawing on its one-year progress report and findings from the FCA Transition Finance Pilot. Attendees will consider priorities for transition finance guidance, sector roadmaps, market transparency, and practical approaches to matching capital with investable climate solutions, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors.

Further discussion will examine implementation at entity and sector level, including governance, disclosure, workforce capability, regional planning, and engagement with communities affected by industrial change. The conference will also be an opportunity to explore how emerging standards, reporting frameworks, assurance, and regulatory innovation can be effectively developed to support transition planning while avoiding overlap with wider non-financial reporting issues.
