July 2017

This timely seminar considered the future for exporting UK education abroad. It took place in light of the Government’s ongoing commitment to increase education exports to £30 billion by 2020 and amid continued growth in the number of overseas UK boarding schools.

Delegates discussed the key challenges and opportunities for British schools when establishing satellite campuses overseas, including the maintenance of high standards, teacher recruitment and steps to protect and enhance a school brand.

Further sessions assessed the next steps for increasing exports of UK education products overseas in view of competition from other countries providing English-medium education, including best practice in developing and tailoring education products to international markets and government steps to support awarding bodies, qualification providers and EdTech companies to increase exports.

The seminar brought together key policymakers including parliamentarians and senior officials with stakeholders including school and college leaders, education consultants, lawyers, architects, language qualification providers, assessment providers and representatives from international schools, awarding bodies, education technology providers, businesses, trade associations and academics.
