This seminar offered an opportunity to discuss the developing data protection and privacy landscape in the UK and Europe.
It took place as the UK’s future relationship with the EU remains unclear and with preparations ongoing for the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) coming into force in the UK and across Europe. Delegates examined implementation issues affecting public and private sector organisations of varying scales, and the way forward for effective international collaboration at a governmental, regulatory and industry level.
Areas for discussion included the impact of EU GDPR on UK organisations and citizens, and discussion on next steps for implementation; the impact of Brexit on implementation and future policy; international issues such as cross-jurisdiction data storage and initiatives such as Privacy Shield’s implementation; futureproofing policy for developments in technologies such as M2M and AI; commercial and service opportunities, and data use strategies, being developed in anticipation of the new regulatory environment; and latest thinking on best practice in effective communication, building trust, offering clear choices, and putting in place roles to meet new regulatory requirements.
