Bringing together policymakers with key stakeholders, this conference focused on policy priorities for the UK construction industry - including modernisation, skills and the potential impact of the Industrial Strategy.
It followed the publication of the Industrial Strategy White Paper and the Construction Sector Deal - and brought out latest thinking on how the Strategy can support the industry’s growth - looking at issues around infrastructure investment, skills, SME growth and the design and implementation of the Sector Deal.
Sessions also discussed the recently announced housing stimulus package, planning reforms and the removal of stamp duty for first time buyers, which aim to support the supply and delivery of new homes - as well as the extension of National Productivity Investment Fund.
The seminar was further timed to discuss priorities for addressing workforce shortages and skills gaps following the recently announced National Retraining Scheme, and followed the recent publication of the Government’s review of the construction Industrial Training Boards, with proposals to reform governance, accountability and improve sector skills - launched in response to the Farmer Review which predicted a decline of 20-25% in the workforce in the next decade.
