This seminar brought together key policymakers and stakeholders from across the education sector to consider the impact of A-Level reform on schools, colleges, students, exam boards and universities.
Delegates assessed the initial reception of the first re-formed A-Levels and the initial impact of their altered structure, emphasis and content - including the early effects on grade boundaries and subject choice.
Attendees also discussed latest thinking on the decoupling of the AS-Level - including the future position of the AS, the implications for the curriculum, and key issues for the teaching profession - such as the setting of predicted grades.
Further areas for discussion on the day included:
- How universities are now approaching admissions following reform and the rise in the number of students undertaking Extended Project Qualifications;
- The relationship between the reformed A-Levels, preparation for higher education and future employment; and
- Whether the removal of the AS allows students to participate in extra-curricular activities at 16-19, and ensures a rounded learning experience.
