With Ofcom publishing the report from its third review of public service broadcasting this seminar offered a timely opportunity for policymakers and key stakeholders from across the media sector to consider the future of public service broadcasting and content delivery within the evolving television market.
Delegates considered the challenges and strategic options for retaining audiences - particularly younger viewers – as the increased market penetration of OTT services continued to challenge traditional PSB and pay TV models with original content offerings and innovative bundling of services. The agenda also included discussion on priorities for maintaining standards of quality across all genres in public service media and for investment in original British programming, as well as on the evolution of on-demand services and online content distribution.
Delegates also considered the priorities for the new BBC charter, the scope and scale of its remit, and the future of its funding model in light of the report from the Culture, Media and Sport Committee inquiry into the future of the BBC.
