Following the Government's emergency legislation and the 'right to be forgotten', this seminar examined latest changes and attitudes towards data protection and privacy in the UK.
In the run-up to the general election and following delayed European legislation, delegates discussed what steps businesses should be taking to ensure their compliance and priorities for long-term strategies. Delegates also discussed the challenges of reconciling privacy concerns and the 'right to be forgotten' with freedom of information and public interest, as well as implications for policing following cases of ISPs and websites informing on the viewing of illegal content by users.
With individuals increasingly inputting more personal data online, delegates considered whether they should also have the right to remove it, in light of an increase in Data Protection complaints to the ICO. Attendees also assessed best practice in protecting data for private and public organisations, and considered progress in technology, standardisation, security and ownership, particularly in the cloud and on portable devices.
