Bringing together policymakers and healthcare professionals, this seminar discussed next steps for developing NHS estates, in areas such as GP premises, vanguard sites and secondary care settings.
Delegates assessed the progress of the Primary Care Transformation Fund in improving the estates of primary care services, the impact of changes to the funding approval process, including the need for CCG approval on all GP funding applications, and proposals by the Department of Health to raise £2 billion through the selling off of surplus NHS assets over the next five years.
Further sessions focused on how estates can be further utilised to deliver new models of care and move care out of hospitals, and next steps for improving the flexibility of existing and new property to adapt to local clinical needs.
There was also discussion on ensuring that GP premises are fit for purpose and reflect the needs of local service users, further measures needed to be in place to streamline the process of negotiating new and existing contracts between landlords and GP surgeries, and priorities for ensuring that buildings are adequately maintained and managed to retain value.
