This seminar looked at the outlook for new nuclear projects in the UK and followed the announcement of a nuclear sector deal.
Delegates discussed the National Infrastructure Commission’s recommendations that nuclear projects be continued on a one-by-one basis and the latest thinking on how to reduce the cost of nuclear power without compromising safety.
Further sessions looked at the role of nuclear power in ensuring the UK’s energy security as coal generation is phased out, as well as priorities for effectively incentivising innovation to support future nuclear fuels, new nuclear manufacturing techniques, recycling and reprocessing, and advanced reactor design.
Discussion included thinking on the environmental impact of nuclear projects, particularly in the areas of waste and construction, as well as on the international investment climate for the industry.
