Food waste policy in the UK - next steps for innovation, partnerships and energy recovery

November 2016

Starting from: £99 + VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

Taking place against a backdrop of growing concern for developing sustainable food systems, this conference offered a timely opportunity to discuss the priorities for reducing food waste in the UK.

Delegates were able to consider the future of mandatory food waste regulation in light of WRAP’s new voluntary agreement - The Courtauld Commitment 2025, aiming to develop collaborative frameworks to reduce inefficiencies in food and drink production and consumption, and the next steps for UK waste policy and its relationship with the European Commission’s Circular Economy Strategy in light of the EU referendum.

Further discussion areas included priorities for the distribution of food surplus and the future of energy recovery innovation - including next steps for the development and investment of the anaerobic digestion industry.

Sessions examined best practice and innovative ways to reduce waste from producer to consumer, the effect of voluntary agreements as well as local and national drives and the future role of government bodies, industry and the third sector in creating a more sustainable food supply chain.
