This conference examined the next steps for the development and delivery of the secondary curriculum in schools - focusing on design, implementation and inspection; improving attainment outcomes for young people, whilst ensuring students have a ‘rounded’ learning experience; and the impact of the EBacc on curriculum delivery and its role in the wider curriculum.
The seminar was an opportunity for delegates to discuss Ofsted’s ongoing research into the curriculum following the announcement of changes to how Ofsted inspects including focus on a broader curriculum with less emphasis on exam results and changes to the way schools are measured expected to be included in the New Inspection Framework ahead of its anticipated introduction in September.
Delegates explored the future of technology and creative subjects following past concerns that some schools are focusing solely on EBacc subjects; a lack of knowledge of the EBacc amongst teachers and surrounding issues of teacher recruitment and retention as technology and arts subjects merge; the necessity of fostering parental interest and engagement with the curriculum; and the wider impact of the EBacc on the secondary curriculum and on the attainment of poorer pupils.
