The UK renewable energy supply chain - next steps for sector development, international competitiveness, and CfD and Supply Chain Plans

February 2022

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This conference examined next steps for developing the supply chain across UK wind and emerging renewable technologies.

Areas for discussion included increasing the UK sector’s global competitiveness and its ability to attract interest from international developers, investors, and other key partners.

The conference was a timely opportunity to consider the issues in the context of:

  • proposals in the Energy White Paper on UK clean energy supply chains and wind power
  • changes to Supply Chain Plans and the CfD contract
  • the Net Zero Strategy - Build Back Greener, outlining proposals to decarbonise all aspects of the UK economy and to leverage up to £90bn of private investment by 2030

Delegates assessed the outcomes of the consultations and the Government’s response, as well as the implications of the proposals for supply chain obligations and Allocation Round 4 (AR 4).

Delegates also considered the work being done to transition away from reliance on fossil fuels, with high expectations being placed on the UK to deliver necessary changes to the sector. Meeting newly announced targets will require the Government to double down on efforts to deploy a new generation of home-grown technologies.

We were pleased to be able to include keynote contributions from Dr Nicola Higgins, Deputy Director, Offshore Wind, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Stuart R Broadley, Chief Executive, EIC; and Co-Chair, UKESC Taskforce; Thomas Grigoleit, Director, Energy, Building & Environmental Technologies, Germany Trade and Invest; Lloyd James, Partner, Burges Salmon; and Dr Nina Skorupska, Chief Executive, The Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology.

The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from BEIS; the Cabinet Office; Defra; the DfT; HM Treasury; the DIT; the Department for the Economy, NI; the GLD; Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, NI; HMRC; the HSE; the Office of Government Property; the Planning Inspectorate; Renewable Electricity; The Scottish Government; the UK Space Agency; and the Welsh Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from both Houses of Parliament.
