This conference examined policy priorities for the Northern Powerhouse going forward and the impact of the Government’s delayed Levelling Up White Paper.
It was a timely opportunity to discuss how key issues are tackled in the upcoming white paper, as well as what is needed to deliver on the needs of the Northern Powerhouse in terms of supporting economic growth and developing pan-regional and city-region infrastructure.
Delegates also considered next steps for the region more broadly, linking the Northern Powerhouse with wider policy developments such as the National Infrastructure Strategy and the UK Innovation Strategy, as well as the role of devolution in building the Northern Powerhouse.
We were pleased to be able to include keynote contributions from Henri Murison, Director, Northern Powerhouse Partnership; Martin Tugwell, Chief Executive, Transport for the North; Dr Annette Bramley, Director, N8 Research Partnership; Barry Hodgson, Deputy Director, National Innovation Centre for Data ; and Lesley Moody, President, North East England Chamber of Commerce.
The discussion brought together stakeholders with key policy officials who attended from BEIS; the CLGU; the DCMS; the DfE; the DfT; DIT; the DLUHC; the DWP; Homes England; the ORR; and the Welsh Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from the House of Commons.
