This conference focused on the future of the NHS estate and what is required if it is to support aims for integrated care, enhancing patient experience, utilising digital technology, and meeting future demand.
It was an opportunity to discuss the refreshment of the Health Infrastructure Plan, which aims to bring out the lessons learned during the pandemic as part of the updated strategic direction for estates - in areas including flexibility, accessibility, infection control, primary care hubs, innovation and technology, sustainability, and setting standards for hospital construction projects.
We are very pleased to have been able to include a keynote session with Edward Argar MP, Minister of State for Health, Department of Health and Social Care.
Further keynote contributors included: Adrian Powell, Development and Planning Director, NHS Property Services; James Bawn, Strategic Business Development Director, Community Health Partnerships; Emma Brecknock, Partner, Hill Dickinson; Amanda Hurst, Partner, Hill Dickinson; and Matthew Walker, Director of Strategy, National Association of Primary Care.
Areas of discussion included:
- the Health Infrastructure Plan - policy priorities and addressing key issues
- innovation - developing new space, use of funding, smarter working, and learning from the pandemic
- technology - digital health infrastructure, improving the quality of online care, and role in tackling backlogs
- local impact - support for integrated community healthcare, patient involvement and accessibility, and creating a sense of place
- environmental sustainability - next steps for development, and alignment with net-zero goals
The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from the DoH; DHSC; Cabinet Office; CCS; DLUHC; VOA; and DIT.
