This conference was a timely opportunity to examine the future of gambling regulation and discuss priorities, with the Government planning a white paper on gambling.
Delegates discussed priorities for the reduction of online harms and how existing legislation such as the Online Harms Bill has affected the sector and its customers.
Key areas for discussion included:
- policy - priorities for the planned White Paper on gambling
- gambling related harms - latest thinking and initiatives on tackling problem gambling
- consumer behaviour - including the impact of changes during the pandemic
- online regulation - looking at latest developments, impact on the industry and consumers, effectiveness, and scope for change going forward
We were pleased to be able to include keynote sessions with: Andrew Rhodes, CEO, Gambling Commission; Brigid Simmonds, Chairman, The Betting and Gaming Council; and a senior speaker confirmed from DCMS.
The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from the DCMS; Ofcom; the Department for Communities, NI; NAO; and The Scottish Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from the House of Lords and the House of Commons Library.
