This conference looked at current priorities for tackling food waste in households, industry, and agriculture.
Delegates shared thinking and discussed developments in improving local waste management and recycling services, tackling plastic waste, reducing waste crime, and achieving positive behaviour change.
It was an opportunity for key stakeholders and policymakers to assess government plans - including measures in the Environment Act - to reform England’s rubbish, recycling, and food waste collection.
Areas for discussion included:
- the Food Waste Reduction Roadmap
- household and industry food waste
- new plans to target waste crime
- waste in agriculture
- innovation in packaging
- food waste policy coordination with wider decarbonisation targets

We also expected discussion on priorities for the coordination of strategies to tackle waste across the food chain, including:
- the proposed deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks containers
- an extended producer responsibility scheme
- further measures in the Environment Act for driving plastic waste reduction
- introduction of the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme aiming to support waste reduction in agriculture
