This conference looked at how best to support educational attainment in England in the wake of the pandemic and the particular approaches needed for supporting disadvantaged families.
It was a timely opportunity to consider what can be learned from initiatives and policies that were brought in to support education throughout the pandemic, such as the National Tutoring Programme and the education recovery package.
Delegates will assess what has been effective in delivering intended improvements in terms of attainment and provision, as well as in providing the necessary assistance to the sector and its workforce.
Further discussion looked at priorities for education recovery in the context of reforms, including the revised EYFS framework and the implementation of Reception Baseline Assessments, which were rolled out in September 2021.
In addition, discussion focused on the expected impact of the new funding announced in the Spending Review 2021 to top up the core schools budget, as well as the additional funding going towards addressing children and young people's learning loss during the pandemic.
We are pleased to have been able to include keynote contributions from:
- Graham Archer, Director for Education Recovery, Department for Education
- Paul Finnis, Chief Executive Officer, Learning Foundation and Digital Poverty Alliance
- Ben Jordan, Senior Policy Unit Manager, UCAS
- Neil Leitch, Chief Executive Officer, Early Years Alliance
- Dr Angela Donkin, Chief Social Scientist, National Foundation for Educational Research
The discussion brought together stakeholders with key policy officials who attended from the DfE; the Government Legal Department and the NAO - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from the House of Commons.
