This conference looked at priorities for improving domestic energy efficiency and key issues for meeting the objectives outlined in Sustainable Warmth, the updated Fuel Poverty Strategy for England.

It was also an opportunity to look at the impact of the recent rise in gas prices, and implications for consumers, the energy sector, energy security, and policy and regulation - as well as the possible effect on stakeholder attitudes and prospects for the progress of energy efficiency developments.

Areas for discussion included priorities and strategies for:

  • large-scale retrofits and overcoming barriers to retrofitting on a national and local level
  • new low-carbon heating initiatives and energy efficiency schemes, as well as steps for translating these into business growth and innovation
  • supply chain and skills growth and tying in with the Government’s Levelling Up agenda

It was also an opportunity to discuss the commitments to energy efficiency developments made in the Energy White Paper, as well as issues around fuel poverty more broadly and priorities for innovation in the context of wider developments, such as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

We were pleased to be able to include keynote contributions from:

  • Olivia Haslam, Deputy Director, Warm Homes Team, BEIS
  • Jade Lewis, Chief Executive, Sustainable Energy Association
  • Anna Scothern, Chief Executive, National Home Improvement Council
