This conference focused on next steps and long-term policy priorities for improving dementia diagnosis and care, and what is required to recover dementia diagnosis rates to pre-pandemic levels.
It was a timely opportunity for key stakeholders and policy makers to discuss this, with the new government strategy for dementia currently in development - and in the context of the government’s focus on addressing the challenge of dementia in the Life Sciences Vision, and the 2020 Challenge on Dementia coming to a close.
The agenda brought out latest thinking on priorities for:
- the new government strategy
- dementia research
- improving diagnosis and assessment
- innovation and technology
- ICS and dementia care within the community
- support for the workforce
- wider adult social care reform
We are pleased to have been able to include keynote sessions with Fiona Carragher, Director of Research and Influencing, Alzheimer’s Society; and Giovanna Lalli, Director of Scientific Affairs, UK Dementia Research Institute; as well as contributions from Dr Sina Habibi, Chief Executive Officer, Cognetivity Neurosciences; Dr Jeremy Isaacs, Consultant Neurologist, St George’s University Hospitals NHS Trust and Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; and Clinical Director, London Dementia Clinical Network, NHSE&I; and Dr Vanessa Raymont, Senior Clinical Researcher; Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist, Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford.
The conference was an opportunity for stakeholders to consider the issues alongside key policy officials who attended from the DHSC; the Cabinet Office; CQC; the DLUHC; NAO; OLS; The Scottish Government; and the Welsh Government - as well as parliamentary pass-holders from the House of Lords.
