Priorities for integrity and duty of care in sport - progress, policy options and the UK’s global contribution

October 2017

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This seminar examined policy priorities for promoting integrity and duty of care across the UK sports sector.

It was an opportunity to assess the mandatory Code for Sport Governance which sets out standards of transparency, accountability and financial integrity for all sporting organisations in the receipt of public funding, and follows the publication of the Duty of Care in Sport Review led by Baroness Grey-Thompson, as well as in the context of high-profile investigations into doping, corruption and welfare in sport.

Policymakers and stakeholders considered the next steps for developing the UK’s framework for ethics in sport and restoring public trust in the sector.

They also discussed the current approach to anti-doping and further options for prevention and enforcement, priorities for tackling corruption in sport - with a particular focus on improving policy and industry co-operation and information sharing, enhanced monitoring processes and harmonising the legal framework on corruption - as well as the UK’s role in the development of a global integrity code.

Further sessions looked at the duty of care responsibility the sector has towards its participants - including around personal safety and injury, mental wellbeing and supporting elite athletes during, and after their careers - and assess the key considerations and challenges for the sector in ensuring a safe environment and a supportive, transparent culture for all involved.
