The future for adult social care in England: funding, integration and workforce challenges

November 2017

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This seminar was a timely opportunity to assess priorities for social care policy in England.

It followed the publication of the CQC’s State of Care report, which reported a decrease in the number of beds in nursing homes and an increase in the number of domiciliary care contracts being handed back to councils due to insufficient funding.

The seminar brought together stakeholders with key policymakers from Parliament and government, with officials from DCLG; DH; HM Treasury; the ONS; the NAO and NOMS.

They examined options for the long term funding of the sector, with the Government planning to consult on putting social care on a more secure financial footing.

Delegates also discussed how best to support people, families and communities to prepare for old age and address issues related to the quality and variation of care - in response to concerns raised by the Communities and Local Government Committee.

Further sessions considered key issues for the social care workforce as the UK begins the process of withdrawing from the EU, including challenges for care providers in implementing the Living Wage.
