This seminar examined key issues for quality assurance in UK higher education institutions, and degree classification systems used by HEIs, following calls for the sector to take action on grade inflation, and the creation of the Office for Students.
In light of the QAA and UK Standing Committee for Quality Assessment’s consultation on the review of the UK Quality Code for Higher Education, delegates considered the updated Code’s new expectations and core practices.
Sessions discussed the next steps for tackling ‘essay mills’, main issues around reforms to degree-awarding powers, and the future for the degree classification system - including addressing grade inflation, next steps for Grade Point Average systems and the way ahead for external examination.
