Priorities for flood protection in England: insurance, investment and resource management

December 2016

Starting from: £99 + VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

Following the publication of the Government’s National Flood Resilience Review and a critical Parliamentary report into future prevention strategies, this seminar provided a timely opportunity to discuss the future of England’s flood defences, and to examine UK flood insurance industry following the launch of Flood Re, the government-backed Flood insurance scheme.

With the increase in the flood defence budget to £3bn over this Parliament and Parliamentary inquiries into last year’s winter flooding, future prevention strategies and co-operation across Government, delegates assessed priorities for further developing flood defence infrastructure in at-risk areas. Sessions also focused on local decision-making and opportunities for local partnerships, as well as emergency response strategies after severe flooding in the North of England in the winter of 2015 saw the establishment of the Cumbrian Floods Partnership, which published an action plan in June 2016 that set out steps to take in order to improve local cooperation for river and land management.
