Priorities for UK fisheries policy - sustainability, trade, access and funding

June 2017

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This conference considered the priorities for UK and devolved governments in developing a post-Brexit fisheries management regime which supports the fishing industry and coastal communities, the marine environment, and the wider food sector.

Delegates assessed priorities for the UK’s negotiating strategy as it moves away from the EU Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), looking at options for a new allocation mechanism for quota shares after Brexit, access arrangements to Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) with neighbouring countries, and the application of import and export tariffs within the EU market.

The agenda also brought out thinking on issues highlighted in the House of Lords EU Energy and Environment Sub-Committee fisheries inquiry, including new trading relations with non-EU markets, enhancing quality and value of catch, protecting marine security and developing aquaculture, driving domestic consumption of seafood products, investment in new technologies and infrastructure, and income and employment challenges for the UK workforce.
