At a time of considerable uncertainty following the EU referendum, this seminar was an opportunity to discuss the next steps for ensuring Britain’s technology sectors continue to flourish.
Delegates assessed the key challenges facing the UK post-Brexit including a lack of confidence as negotiations continued, the application of EU regulation going forward for data, IoT and cyber security as well as examining the tax framework to ensure Britain continues to be competitive and attractive to global corporation and SMEs alike.
Following the launch of the UK industrial strategy and a commitment to a ‘Global Britain’, delegates discussed the key opportunities and priorities for the tech sector including attracting investment - both domestic and foreign, ensuring access to workers with the necessary skills, increasing exports and the developing regulatory framework.
Other areas for discussion included the UK’s role and influence in the longer terms for areas such as standardisation and spectrum management; the balance between access to overseas labour and improving digital skills throughout education and whether UK infrastructure adequately supports the technology sector.
