Assessing the new AMR strategy - funding, research and implementation

February 2019

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This timely conference examined the new 5-year plan for tackling AMR in England, examining the way forward for delivery and development of a one health approach, encompassing human, animal and environmental health.

Attendees discussed the impact of key measures within the plan - including ensuring current antibiotics are safe, effective and prescribed appropriately, as well as utilising technology to gather data and supporting clinicians, vets and farmers to reduce antibiotic use.

The seminar also followed the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan, which committed to assist in the delivery of the Government’s AMR plan - with discussion on what further steps might be necessary to ensure continued progress is made across human and animal health.

Attendees also assessed options for a new payment model for antibiotics to ensure pharmaceutical companies are paid for the value of their medicines, rather than the quantity sold. Alongside this, sessions looked at the progress of research being conducted to strengthen efforts to tackle the spread of AMR and to develop new forms of treatment for drug resistant bacterial infections.

The agenda also assessed the impact of further funding to tackle AMR and strengthen international collaboration.

There was also discussion on the next steps for international collaboration on AMR as well as the measures being taken by industry and healthcare professionals to encourage the responsible use of antibiotics in healthcare.
