This seminar assessed further steps that can be taken to support growth in the UK tourism industry post-Brexit, and the sector’s place in the UK’s Industrial Strategy going forward.
Delegates discussed key priorities for policy to encourage the development of visitor economies across the UK, and to provide opportunities in rural and coastal areas, including in regard to investment in physical and digital infrastructure, access to funding and options for deregulation. They also considered challenges around tourism management in order to balance sector growth with local communities’ needs.
Further sessions considered how the industry can more effectively utilise new ways of working, with a focus on collaboration, diversification of services, and product development, as well as innovative marketing strategies and the use of data analytics.
With the Tourism Industry Council putting forward a bid for the development of an Industrial Strategy sector deal, policymakers and stakeholders also discussed issues around connectivity and visa reform, talent and skills, productivity and regulation as the UK withdraws from the EU.
