This seminar brought out the latest thinking and options for policy on improving air quality in the UK.
It was an opportunity to assess key measures from the Government’s draft Clean Air Strategy - which seeks to protect the environment, improve public health by reducing pollution from domestic fuels and provide local government with further powers to lower emissions - during its open consultation.
Attendees also considered what further action might be required to reduce emissions from a range of sources - including transport and homes.
The agenda looked at opportunities for utilising innovative technology for low emission vehicles, upgrading to greener public transport and encouraging the uptake of alternative forms of transportation - and followed the launch of Government funding of £260m to tackle roadside emissions and other local air quality priorities.
Further sessions examined the potential next steps that might be taken on a local and regional level - looking at the expansion of clean air zones, increasing cycling lanes and initiatives in urban planning.
