With the Midlands being at the centre of a range of major new projects including smart motorway upgrades, HS2 and the regeneration of town centres - this seminar assessed the future development of transport policy in the region.
Key policymakers and stakeholders discussed next steps for developing regional transport governance and infrastructure following the publication of the Midland’s Connect Transport Strategy, the East Midlands HS2 Growth Strategy and the 2026 Delivery Plan for Transport that will see £3.4 billion put towards transport network upgrades and improvements.
Sessions examined the impact of key national infrastructure projects such as HS2, prospects for economic growth and regional development as part of the Midlands Engine plan, as well as cooperation between national and regional transport bodies.
The agenda also looked at developing integrated and intermodal city-wide transport networks, the integration and use of smart ticketing schemes and new technologies to establish seamless travel across the region, as well as opportunities presented for strategy development as a result of the directly-elected mayors.
