Next steps for transport in London and the South East - infrastructure and environmental priorities, regeneration and the Mayor’s Transport Strategy

April 2019

Price: £95 PLUS VAT
Format: DOWNLOADABLE PDF

This conference will discuss key issues for transport in London and the wider South East - looking at infrastructure priorities, environmental challenges, opportunities for regeneration and the implementation of the Mayor’s Transport Strategy.

Delegates will assess priorities for investment and development of major transport infrastructure in London and the South East, including the next steps for planning the expansion of Heathrow and Crossrail 2.

It takes place in the context of renewed commitment by TfL to the development of Crossrail 2 and an indicative budget of £27.7bn for the project between 2023 and 2036 in the National Infrastructure Assessment.

We also expect discussion on lessons to be learnt from continued delays to the completion of Crossrail - including from the NAO investigation, and the £2bn in added costs.

The agenda will also bring out views on the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, including implementation issues and how it dovetails with transport policy across the South East, with a focus on rail infrastructure and increased airport capacity.

We expect discussion on how best to realise the opportunities for economic growth and regeneration from transport infrastructure development, particularly in the areas of housing and the potential from building on TfL brownfield land - as well as planning and legal challenges for developing new projects.

Further sessions discuss next steps for reducing emissions from both public and private transport, including the expansion of electric fleets and development of Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZs), as well as the opportunities for introducing further sustainable and active transportation options - and ways to improve the user experience of the transport system.
