Health in the justice system - next steps for commissioning, partnerships and continuity of care

September 2015

Starting from: £99 + VAT

This seminar focused on the future provision of healthcare in the criminal justice system, looking at what more policymakers, commissioners and providers can do to improve health outcomes for offenders and tackle reoffending. It was scheduled to consider the emerging commissioning landscape for justice healthcare in light of NHS England's Health and Justice Commissioning Intentions for 2015/16, and also provided a timely opportunity to assess challenges ahead for policy in the new Parliament.
Sessions focused on the long-term implications of current policy developments impacting on the health and justice landscape - including the roll-out of liaison and diversion trials, the creation of resettlement prisons, and significant changes to the probation service. Delegates also had the opportunity to consider priorities ahead for policy, looking in particular at the next steps for delivering effective health assessments, improved continuity of care, as well as tailored drug, alcohol and mental health services.
The conference brought together policymakers and regulators with stakeholders working across the criminal justice system - including representatives from policing, prisons, immigration detention, probation, courts, CCGs, the NHS and local authorities - as well as academics, charities, private providers, campaign groups and service users.
