Attendees at this conference discussed measures to tackle modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK, as Government took forward its Modern Slavery Bill. The conference brought together policymakers in Parliament and government with a range of stakeholders to assess key proposals - particularly in relation to sentencing and law enforcement, as well as new initiatives to locate and identify victims, and develop a legal duty to report suspected victims.
An important context for discussion was Government's Modern Slavery Strategy - as well as the introduction of an independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner. Sessions brought together further key policymakers with stakeholders working across policing, crime reduction, sentencing, social services, immigration and victim support, along with charities, academics, commentators and other interested parties.
