This seminar was a timely opportunity to assess key issues for the publishing industry.
Delegates considered the changing market dynamics between publishers, online retailers and ebook subscription services, as well as the future of the digital funding model - including questions of consumer access, the implications of a dual market for physical and digital books, and the emergence of ad-funded and pay subscription ebook services online - as well as the questions raised by increased opportunities for digital self-publishing.
Delegates also examined the conditions necessary to ensure future of the public library service in light of the expected publication of the independent report led by William Sieghart, and considered the role of the DCMS, DCLG and Arts Council England going forward, as well as latest thinking on the potential value of libraries as a local resource benefiting business, education, social welfare and culture.
