Part of the 2013 Westminster Education Forum National Curriculum Seminar Series
As Government consulted on its draft Programmes of Study for subjects in England following its review of the National Curriculum, this seminar focused on the content of the new draft National Curriculum for Key Stages 1-3 for both Art and Design and Music as well as the designation of dance, drama, and media arts as 'entitlement subjects' at Key Stage 4; and the role that Art and Music plays in the delivery of other subjects in a cross-curricular manner.
Delegates discussed the extent to which the Curriculum dovetails with the recommendations of the Henley Review of Cultural Education - particularly the range of 'cultural entitlements' every child should experience at each Key Stage - as well as implementation issues such as the role that Music Hubs, local authorities and other arts organisations can play in assisting schools with the delivery of the curriculum.
