Delegates at this timely seminar explored telehealth and telecare in the National Health Service following plans from the Department of Health to integrate them more widely into the services patients receive, and findings from the Whole Systems Demonstrator (WSD) programme which suggest a full scale roll-out is not yet warranted.
Sessions focused on the next steps for research, and how viable telehealth and telecare are as future national programmes in light of the WSD programme raising doubts that the benefits would offset by the cost of the technology. The seminar was also arranged following the launch of the 'three million lives' campaign by the Department of Health, where it plans to work with industry, the NHS, social care and professional partners in a collaboration aimed at reaching the at least three million people with Long Term Conditions and/or social care needs who could benefit from using telehealth and telecare.
