Delegates at this timely seminar considered the prospects for radio in the UK, as Ofcom put together its analysis for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport of the progress made on the Digital Radio Action Plan, following the announcement of cuts to the BBC's local radio services.
Panel sessions focused on financial prospects for local commercial radio, (particularly in the context of the launch of local TV stations), the state of digital radio switchover - including progress made toward switchover triggers such as 90% national coverage and 50% listenership - and how far DAB can define and differentiate itself from FM, both in terms of available content and audio fidelity, as an incentive for consumers to upgrade their sets - without alienating listeners used to the traditional wireless.
