As the provision of IT systems became more localised, this timely seminar provided an opportunity to explore information technology in the National Health Service. Delegates discussed the challenges of decentralising NHS IT systems whilst maintaining national standards and targets, how clinical commissioning groups can achieve best value with their control of the NHS budget and how best to provide patient access to care records whilst upholding obligations on privacy.
Sessions looked at the provision of NHS IT systems without the National Project for IT, opportunities for electronic records and the discharge summary toolkit, as well as issues around supplier contracts and the future opportunities for small businesses.
