Following the interim findings of Government’s Review of the Youth Justice System, this conference considered options ahead for reforming the provision of youth justice services in England and Wales.
Sessions focused on possible reforms to youth custody, looking in particular at the interim Review’s current proposals to re-design the youth estate to cater for smaller groups of children and replace youth prisons with smaller secure schools, as well as develop a culture of learning and improved educational outcomes within youth custodial settings. Delegates also considered latest thinking on preventing youth offending, the future of the youth court and sentencing frameworks, and options for developing effective approaches to community reintegration.
This conference brought together policymakers with a range of stakeholders working across the youth justice system, including custody providers, lawyers, local authorities, educational consultants and specialists, charities and campaign groups.
