Westminster Media Forum

Creative industries in England - regional growth, funding models and policy priorities

May 2016

This seminar offered an opportunity to consider latest opportunities and unique challenges for the creative industries in England.
Sessions examined how the sector, working with local and central government and their agencies, can effectively implement a joined-up strategy to support innovation, commercial growth and the development of talent in order to ensure England’s future success in an increasingly competitive global marketplace and secure a sustainable infrastructure of support for creative companies outside London.
In light of a drive towards devolved decision-making of strategy and funding in the English regions, and four years on from the abolition of regional development agencies, delegates also examined the current landscape for access to finance for different creative industries across England - including the distribution of public funds and levels of private investment - and identified the shortfalls which need to be addressed going forward.

Shortly after every Westminster Media Forum seminar, a briefing document is produced. This is distributed to all delegates on the day as well as to our policymaker contacts in government, and to stakeholders more widely.

A seminar publication provides a timely record of proceedings, and acts as a guide to the latest thinking on current policy issues for those unable to be at the event.
