This seminar assessed policy priorities for palliative and end of life care.
Delegates considered the impact of NICE’s new guidance on improving care for people at the end of life, which seeks to improve communication for patients and families, encourage choice for the dying person and tackle issues such as assisted hydration. The Care Quality Commission's thematic review on end of life care was also discussed.
In addition there was also a focus on progress made in integrating health and social care, the impact of the New Models of Care vanguard sites on end of life care and calls for round-the-clock access to specialist palliative care in acute and emergency settings.
