This seminar provided an opportunity to assess future priorities for mental health services in England.
Attendees discussed priorities outlined in the Autumn Spending Review including the formation of a new clinical strategy for mental health, an additional investment of £600 million in mental health services, and further steps to be outlined in the next report of the Mental Health Taskforce in Spring 2016.
Delegates also assessed progress on the implementation of the 5 year mental health strategy 'Achieving Better Access to Mental Health Services by 2020', including the introduction of standard mental health waiting times, expanding access to talking therapies and other services, and measures to establish parity of esteem between mental and physical health services.
Further sessions focused on changes to mental health services in the NHS vanguard sites, priorities for child and young adult mental health particularly in the co-commissioning pilots, next steps for improving prevention of mental illness, and developing the relationship between policing and mental health.
