This seminar provided a timely opportunity to discuss priorities for policy, research and business practice aimed at lowering transport emissions in the UK. It came with the UK Government taking action following revelations on emissions test defeat software - including the commissioning of two inquiries from the Environmental Audit and Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committees into emissions and air quality - and in light of the ongoing Go Ultra Low city scheme with the aim of helping cities to become international leaders in low emission vehicles (LEVs).
Delegates discussed latest developments in fuel and vehicle innovation and transport infrastructure, and the role of legacy fuels and the transition to biofuels. They also examined strategies for low emissions in fuel-intensive sectors and looked at the next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as urban strategies for lowering transport emissions. Further sessions assessed necessary improvements to electricity networks and the strategic road network, and challenges for the automotive and public transport sectors to adapt to the accelerating uptake of LEVs across the UK.
