Following the publication of the key areas of action for the European Commission as part of their Digital Single Market Strategy, this seminar was a timely opportunity to assess the way forward for modernising the European copyright framework - including challenges and policy options.
With legislative proposals for copyright reform expected at the end of 2015, delegates examined the priority areas for action to encourage the flow of content across borders, support the creation of new distribution channels, and ensure the long-term growth of the European creative economy, as well as considering the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in balancing consumers' interests and creator reward.
Delegates also considered the next steps for an effective and harmonised approach to copyright enforcement across member states, the changing role of foreign digital intermediaries in the debate, and the impact of changes to EU-level copyright legislation on their operations.
