VENUE:Sixty One Whitehall, London SW1A 2ET

Lord Lester of Herne Hill QC

Lord Lester of Herne Hill QC

Guest of Honour: Lord Lester of Herne Hill QC

As debate over the future direction of libel and privacy law intensifies and the Government prepares to launch a review of UK libel laws, this timely seminar will bring together leading voices in the field to consider the current operation and impact of the law, evaluate proposed reforms, and discuss the most appropriate way forward.

Following the publication of reform proposals by our Guest of Honour, the leading public and constitutional lawyer Lord Lester of Herne Hill QC, discussion will reflect conclusions drawn by the Libel Working Group and the issues raised in the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee inquiry Press Standards, Privacy and Libel.

In addition, the seminar will look at the impact libel law has on open debate - particularly amongst the science community - and how challenges to reform, such as, 'libel tourism', digital media, and costs, can best be answered.

We are delighted that Lord Lester of Herne Hill QC has kindly agreed to deliver the keynote address at this seminar.
