This seminar considers the challenges facing social platforms and other businesses when utilising social media as part of their digital engagement strategy. The agenda is being structured in the context of the continuing EU Data Protection framework review, libel reforms in the UK and ongoing policy issues surrounding copyright of user-generated content and regulation of social marketing.
Delegates - involved in policymaking and regulation, providing services and infrastructure, and representing citizens and campaign groups - will discuss the policy challenges of the fast-paced evolution of social media and applications, including options to protect user privacy, and the balance of responsibilities in the publication and monitoring of content. Planned sessions also look at how organisations are responding to developments in the 'terms of service' that users agree to on social platforms, and the new service opportunities being deployed by innovative and agile businesses using social content and consumer data.
