Copyright regulation and combating piracy in the UK and Europe

This event is CPD certified
Guest of Honour: Sean Dennehey, Acting Chief Executive, Intellectual Property Office (IPO)
As European governments begin the implementation of strategies to tackle online piracy, and with the European Commission considering next steps for collective rights management, multi-sector licensing and amendments to the Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement (IPRE) Directive, delegates at this timely seminar will discuss the emerging options to protect audio/visual works online and tackle piracy.
Planned sessions focus on industry and public policy priorities for reform of the UK copyright regime - in the context of the Hargreaves Review and following recommendations for a new Copyright Hub set out in the UK Intellectual Property Office's Copyright works - as well as the possible impact on the UK of proposals to harmonise regulatory approaches across Europe. As Ofcom readies the first wave of Digital Economy Act notifications for 2013 and in light of the successful blocking of file-sharing websites The Pirate Bay and Newzbin2 in the High Court, delegates will also examine the emerging methods being employed to tackle piracy including site blocking and limiting advertising revenue, as well as the use by industry of new technologies - such as Ultra-Violet, Cinavia and Triple-Play Blu-Ray discs - and new business models to ensure legal routes meet consumer demands and undermine the alternatives.
We are delighted Sean Dennehey, Acting Chief Executive, Intellectual Property Office and Justin Le Patourel, Head of Copyright, Ofcom have agreed to deliver keynote addresses at this seminar.
