This seminar will bring out latest thinking on the social and economic value of IP (intellectual property). Discussion will focus on how a comprehensive strategy for IP could underpin the UK's position as a competitive leader in the global economy.
This is emerging as a major policy focus for the new Parliament, with research being undertaken by the Intellectual Property Office and the Council for Science and Technology, which highlights the increasing emphasis placed on the role of government and business to stimulate innovation and generate growth.
Planned sessions consider latest thinking on what more can be done to support knowledge-intensive industries - including pharmaceuticals, green technologies and the creative industries - and how Intellectual Property Rights can be used to encourage innovation and harness technological advances. Discussion will also address the additional benefits an increased emphasis on research and development can bring and the important role of IP in wider society.
We are delighted to be able to include in this seminar keynote presentations from John Alty, Chief Executive and Comptroller General, Intellectual Property Office; Peter Bance, Chief Executive Officer, Ceres Power; Jennifer Carlton, Senior Programme Manager, Intellect; Matthew Dixon, Partner, Harrison Goddard Foote; Dr Matthew Fisher, Senior Lecturer, Institute of Brand and Innovation Law, Faculty of Laws, University College London; Dr Cathy Garner, Chief Executive Officer, Manchester: Knowledge Capital; Professor Thomas Hoehn, Director, Intellectual Property Centre, Business School, Imperial College London; Professor Stuart Macdonald, Professor of Information and Organisation, University of Sheffield and Ben White, Head of Intellectual Property, British Library.
