Guest of Honour: Judy Hargadon, Chief Executive, School Food Trust

Following recent criticism of the interventionist 'Jamie Oliver' approach to public health and the announcement of cuts to the planned extension of free school meals in primary schools, this seminar will bring out the latest thinking on the future of school dinners in a challenging economic climate. Discussion will look forward to practical and policy issues around procurement and provision, and evaluate the role of bodies involved in school food in the context of tightened public sector spending. Planned sessions consider the relative importance of free school meals compared to other government programmes, as well as personal and parental responsibility for healthy eating. Further sessions will also cover the reintroduction of cooking to the school classroom and will include case studies and examples of best practice in improving pupil and parent engagement with healthy eating objectives.

We are delighted to be able to include in this seminar keynote addresses from: Roy Ballam, Education Programme Manager, British Nutrition Foundation; Dr Michele Belot, Research Fellow, Centre for Experimental Social Sciences, Nuffield College, University of Oxford; Jane Bristow, Corporate Services and Education, Sodexo; Alexander Clark, Headteacher, Atwood Primary School, Croydon; Dr Gavan Conlon, Partner, London Economics; Bill Graham, Head of Education, Farming & Countryside Education (FACE); Judy Hargadon, Chief Executive, School Food Trust; Rob Lyons, Deputy Editor, spiked; Professor Kevin Morgan, Professor of Governance and Development, School of City and Regional Planning, Cardiff University and Helen Plaice, Headteacher, Todmorden High School, Calderdale.

We are delighted that Dr Roberta Blackman-Woods MP, Shadow Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills and Diana Johnson MP, Shadow Minister for Health have each kindly agreed to chair part of this seminar.
